Saved from what?

Saved from what?

In Christianity today, we often hear the question asked ‘Are you saved?’ For those who know what this question is getting at they will probably say ‘yes’ - maybe even ‘no’.

However, someone who has no idea might reply with ‘saved from what?’  That’s actually a really good question. Do we know what we’re actually saved from?

For some this might seem is easy to tackle. We’re saved from hell, right? But surely this goes deeper? We’re actually saved from God himself. Sounds a bit suspect doesn’t it? Let’s have a look at what the Bible teaches…

Whoever believes in the Son [Jesus] has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. John 3:36

We’re actually saved from God in the sense that we’re saved from his wrath! Hell is simply the end destination where God’s withheld wrath is ‘poured out’ on those who reject Jesus as the Son of God.

Heavy topic, right? Don’t worry! It’s easy to focus on what seems negative to us but if we do that we’ll miss the most incredible truth! God being full of wrath doesn’t mean He’s not full of love…

The Bible talks of how Jesus absorbed the wrath of God on the cross when He died. The same wrath that we’re due for the sins we’ve committed. It’s our sins that have provoked God to wrath.

Jesus not only took the wrath of God for us, He also came back from the dead! This means that for those who believe in Jesus, the wrath of God is removed from us permanently! We’re saved!

Not only is this a joy and a relief for Christians, it’s also flippin’ good news worth shouting about! MAF certainly think so and that’s why we fly to remote communities where people have never even heard of Jesus so that they might become saved too!
