Just keep swimming!

Just keep swimming!

On 23 September, Nigel Downing took part in a mammoth challenge and swam the Strait of Gibraltar to raise funds for MAF's life-transforming work. 'Doubts constantly bubble up. And I really do not like getting up in the dark at 5.30am most days to go and get wet' ...but that didn't stop him!

The Strait of Gibraltar is known as one of the toughest swimming challenges out there; less than 500 people have ever made it to the other side. But now Nigel can proudly add his name to that small number having completed his challenge in 4 hours 36 minutes.

Nigel said that he wanted to attempt to swim the Strait of Gibraltar for us because he is inspired by what we do. However we have to say that the feeling is mutual as we think Nigel is pretty inspirational himself. Undertaking months of training in both swimming pools and open water, as well as time trials this certainly isn’t something for the fainthearted.
