Swanson, Andy and Heather

Andy is currently living in Kampala, Uganda where he works as an Engineer ensuring that our planes are safe to fly. He and the team service planes from Uganda, South Sudan, Chad and Liberia among others. Heather and the children are now back in the UK. Andy will finish his service and return in early 2022.

As a boy, Andy grew up in various places around Scotland and developed a love for all things mechanical. At 17 years old, he made a commitment to serve Christ and, after finishing school, he trained as an engineer in the Merchant Navy.

In 2003, Andy married Heather and, soon after, began working ashore in renewable energy generation.

We relocated to Perthshire in 2006, fully expecting to spend the next 25 years there. But God had other plans!

Andy felt a strong call to retrain as an aircraft maintenance engineer, and serve with MAF in whatever part of the world there was a need.

After much prayer, God confirmed this call to both of us.

Heather’s focus has been on running our home and raising our three children Abigail, Matthew and Eilidh. As a music teacher and pianist, she often led worship at our home church in Pitlochry.

Their MAF journey

Following three years training as an aircraft maintenance engineer at Missionary Maintenance Services in Ohio, USA, Andy passed his exams and we moved to Uganda in 2014.

It is a privilege to be able to work with such a well-regarded organisation, and we enjoy the opportunity to demonstrate Christ’s love in such a practical and real way.
