MAF responding to Cyclone Enawo in Madagascar

After Cyclone Enawo hit Madagascar last week, we can confirm that our team are all safe and well and are assessing what MAF can do to help in response.

At the end of last week, MAF conducted a survey flight with several partners including Medair, UNOCHA and the Bureau National de Gestion des Risques et des Catastrophes (BNGRC) so they could assess the impact of the cyclone and see what humanitarian help was needed.

While the survey suggests widespread wind and water damage caused by temporary flooding, at this stage it seems unlikely that an extensive amount of flying is needed directly in response to the cyclone, so our Global Disaster Response team will not be deployed to Madagascar.

However, we are currently working with Medair to see how we can support their response work – the team are expected to do a flight carrying supplies for them late this week.

Please pray for the people of Madagascar at this time.
