Alistair and Anna Youren

Alistair grew up in Yorkshire and then South Wales and graduated in aeronautical engineering from Loughborough University in 2007. Following university, Alistair moved to Bournemouth and spent a year as an apprentice at Moordown Baptist Church.

It was during this year that his desire to serve in some sort of overseas mission work combined with his childhood dream of becoming a pilot. He took a job in aeronautical engineering and saved to fund his flight training, which he began in April 2012, finishing with a Commercial Pilots Licence and Instrument Rating in August 2013.

Anna grew up in Bournemouth, Dorset, and attended Moordown Baptist Church. She studied midwifery at Southampton University and spent six years practising on a busy labour ward. During her university course, Anna spent six weeks in Nigeria with SIM and hoped to return to Africa once qualified.

We met at church and married in 2011, and our son Nathanael was born in 2013 and daughters Talitha in 2015 and Faith in 2018. Our home church is Hope Church Ferndown, a plant from MBC, and they are very excited to be sending their first missionaries out to serve overseas.

Journey with MAF

Following training, Alistair and Anna approached MAF with the hope of being able to apply for a position in Africa after meeting the minimum requirements. MAF instead suggested Arnhem Land, Northern Australia and, after much talking and praying, Alistair and Anna began the application process in autumn 2013.

They flew out to Australia in early 2015 to begin serving among the Aboriginal communities. In 2018 they moved to South Sudan.
