Charles was born in Ashford, Kent, grew up in the Lake District but moved to Devon where he met Rachel. After marrying Rachel in 1995, he began to train toward his long-held dream of becoming a pilot.
Changes in employment coupled with a strong sense of God's leading in 1998 helped Charles decide to extend his passion for flying by gaining his commercial licence. We felt that our ultimate aim was that Charles would eventually use this qualification to serve with MAF overseas. However, the events of 11 September 2001 put an end to this dream and so, seemingly, serving with MAF. A period of eight years of uncertainty followed. Leading
While settled in Devon, our first child, William, was born and over the next five years; Alexandra, Georgina and Freddie arrived. Rachel worked part-time as a teacher and Charles set up his own property maintenance business. Throughout this challenging period, we both continued to feel God's guiding hand and, reflecting back, we can see Him at work in our lives very clearly now.
Charles believed he was called to fly for MAF, but it became clear that this was not God's will and that He had a different for us as a couple; a role that utilised the skills Charles had developed over the past eight years and involved us being part of a team serving and supporting others within and through MAF.
We are now looking forward to the next chapter of our lives serving in Arnhem Land, northern Australia. We are excited about continuing God's will for us as individuals and as a couple, while demonstrating the Christian values and belief we hold so strongly.
