Sight restored in Kenya
More than 130 people had their sight restored by a Christian Blind Mission (CBM) eye team led by Dr Alain Nazaire Mbongo-ZIndamoyen.
Flying with Ryan Unger to Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya, the team were able to see 550 patients.
Due to the large numbers of refugees from Somalia, there were more people than usual waiting for the specialists to arrive.
One 14-year-old girl was bilaterally blind when she first arrived at the refugee camp.
Following a visit from the CBM team two years ago, she received surgery in one eye.
This time, the team was able to operate on her other eye. She can now see clearly and is able to go to school and help her family with chores.
Chad for Christ
Pastors and leaders in villages in Chad were encouraged by a visit from senior pastors from the Chad for Christ campaign.
Chad for Christ is an evangelism programme which has been underway for the past few years.
Greg Vine flew the pastors on a three-day safari to local villages. ‘They are moving into a new phase of recruitment, as well as creating a unified outreach effort between the churches.’
Some of the villages haven’t had a visit from their senior pastors for five years and were happy to receive them at last.
The pastors are planning a training seminar in September and wanted to encourage people to attend.
The seminar will bring together members of numerous denominations from all over Chad.
They will receive training and the tools to help in a nationwide church planting and discipleship campaign.
Greg writes, ‘It was very evident that each community was encouraged by the visits and that there was a renewed sense of purpose generated by their message.
Varied flying in Bangladesh
SIMED International (a Dutch medical company) opened its second hospital in Saidpur, Bangladesh. The group has a vision to build 25 hospitals in north western Bangladesh.
Chad Tilley flew the Dutch Ambassador and the Health Advisor of Bangladesh to celebrate the opening. The hospital will provide essential care in this poor region.
On another flight, Chad took staff from Habitat for Humanity to their reconstruction project in Mirzaganj.
There, they are building new homes following the destruction cause by cyclone Sidr in November.
Chad also flew twice two flights for Friendship to their floating hospital on the chars (sand islands) on Jamuna River in Gaibandha.
Friendship is providing community healthcare to extremely isolated people living in poverty in the north of the country.
