Shuttle flying plays a big part in our Kenya operation, and also in other parts of the developing world. In 2010, more than 500 passengers used our Marsabit shuttle alone. Each flight makes a huge difference to aid and development agencies and missions working at each location.
When Peggy went into labour and urgently needed medical assistance in an isolated village of Papua New Guinea, an 8-hour walk to the nearest clinic wasn;t an option. A quick call on the radio alerted MAF pilot Michael Duncalfe to Peggy's emergency saving her life and the life of her baby girl.
After rats destroyed the rice harvest in Long Layu, Kalimantan, MAF flew rice for the villages. MAF also supports the village with emergency flight. One villages describes how without the plane, it would take a month to do a journey that takes one hour by plane due to the mountainous environment of Kalimantan.
Dr Mann heads up the work of Good News Hospital in Mandritsara. Every month 2,000 out-patients are seen and 1,000 surgical operations are conducted. Patients journey for up to 3 days to reach the hospital. The nearest alternative is 200km away.
