Tim and Carol Derbyshire

Tim and Carol Derbyshire

Tim has been serving with MAF in Tanzania for the last 13 years, first as an aircraft maintenance engineer and then as Quality Manager, but the Lord has indicated it is time for a change.  Carol has worked for the local Diocese for over 20 years in various teaching roles, most recently teaching English to Theology students.  We both began service as single missionaries but we move on as a couple.  We were married in 2002.

God has called us to a new challenge.  We are now being seconded by MAF UK to Australian Centre for Mission Aviation (ACMA) in Victoria, Australia.  At ACMA, future pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers are trained for ministry in mission aviation.  ACMA works in partnership with MAF and JAARS (the aviation arm of Wycliffe Bible Translators), offering flight and/or maintenance training alongside biblical, theological and ministry skills at Bible College of Victoria.

Tim has been offered the position of Chief Engineer and Mission Aviation Instructor (Aircraft Engineering). This is a daunting but exciting prospect that well matches Tim’s previous experience; he will be joining a team of experienced lecturers. The maintenance side is, however, a new venture for ACMA, and one of Tim’s challenges will be to develop this work.

Carol is looking forward to being a home-maker for awhile. There are plenty of opportunities for involvement in English support for the students from overseas, cross-cultural orientation and pastoral care. We will also be within two hours of Carol’s parents.
