I became involved with MAF in the latter part of 1993, when having heard a presentation from the then Local Area Representative, Kevin Crook; I felt that God was challenging me regarding this valuable work. Having been involved in ministry with both music and children’s work over the previous 20 years, I believed that God had another role for me. At that meeting it became apparent that promoting MAF would be that role, one which enabled me to combine my lifelong love of aviation with that of practical Christian service.
Soon, due to Kevin’s move into full time position, (God’s perfect timing!) I took over the role of Area Representative. Although in full time employment as a Contract Officer with the local authority, I continue to enjoy my volunteer’s role by arranging and visiting local churches and secular groups in my spare time where I am able to promote both the vision and the nature of the work of MAF.
Such has been the growth of the volunteer network that I have been appointed one of several Regional Co-ordinators to develop and encourage both area and church reps.
I have also enjoyed being involved in the staffing of the ‘Roadshow Trailer’, which has gained much attention when visiting airshows, carnivals, and Christian events. This has enabled me to engage with and encourage current supporters and the public at large.
Having been to Uganda to see the work that is undertaken by our overseas staff, I really feel that my role, along with other volunteers here in the UK, has become an integral part of God’s plan to bring Help, Hope & Healing throughout the developing world, and it is a privilege to be part of it.
