Requirements and Recruitment Process

The following critical requirements apply for all MAF roles overseas :

  • Occupational requirement for staff overseas to be committed Christians, able and willing to proactively support and present the Christian values of MAF and take part in Christian mission work as part of their role.
  • Calling and motivation to work with MAF. This should be described by both partners where a couple is seeking to join MAF.
  • Emotional resourcefulness, flexibility, willingness to serve. These are core attributes of MAF staff. Working overseas places many demands on the job holder and their family.
  • MAF UK can only process applications from those currently resident in and able to legally live and work in the UK or ROI. Residency in the UK or ROI is required as part of the role is to represent MAF at events in the UK and therefore MAF UK will ask for documentation to prove this right as part of the selection process.
  • Candidates must meet training and experience requirements for the role they are applying for. They must also have full health and psychological health clearance to work in a developing country.
  • There is a minimum age requirement of 18 due to liability insurance and aviation operating requirements in the programmes MAF operates overseas.

Overseas staff recruitment process:

1. Enquirer

2 and 3. Application and references

4 and 5. Medical and psychological assessment and technical assessment for Pilots

6, 7 and 8. Formal interviews and competency assessment

9. Technical evaluation for pilots

10. Acceptance as pre-field staff

MAF UK recognises that the steps in the selection process look long and we are always seeking to ensure these steps can be completed as smoothly and in as timely a manner as possible. Some of them can be combined to save time and travel.

However, there are some fixed points which we can't adjust for individuals such as the flight orientation courses or the pre-field orientation course. These take place at certain points throughout the year.

A candidates own preparation requirements and family situation will also be taken into account when agreeing the assessment and preparation timetable.
