Relief aircraft arrives in East Africa

MAF's aircraft from South Africa on a remote East African airstrip

13 August 2011

An additional aircraft is providing relief flights in East Africa.

MAF has transferred a Cessna Grand Caravan from South Africa to help increase flight capacity into the drought zone and newly independent South Sudan.

The aircraft, flown from our base in Jonannesburg by pilot Stuart Fitch, is currently based in Juba, South Sudan, flying regularly in support of aid, relief and medical organisations working in isolated places.

Our Kenya Country Director Alan Sully is hopeful that permission to operate this aircraft within Kenya will be granted by the end of this week.

Dadaab flight service launches

MAF is beginning a twice-weekly shuttle service next week between Nairobi and Dadaab. This will provide vital logistical support for many aid and medical agencies working at the world's largest refugee camp. The option is also available for aid workers to use this shuttle service to go to other parts of northern Kenya affected by the prolonged drought.

Pray…

Give thanks that MAF has an additional aircraft to increase their capacity to support organisations meeting the dire needs in East Africa.

Pray that permissions to operate in Kenya will soon be achieved.
