Post-quake story: Serving the vulnerable in Jacmel

Since the earthquake struck Haiti, MAF has been flying to the southern town of Jacmel on an almost-daily basis, even six months later. Calvary Chapel Haiti is one of the missions that MAF supports there through the flight service.

Dave Bird, the Field Director of Calvary Chapel Haiti's initiative at Jacmel, sent us the following letter:

'Calvary Chapel Haiti Initiative is a long term commitment to provide earthquake recovery, practical assistance and evangelism in the Jacmel area of southern Haiti. We are partnering with many local churches and small NGOs. Weekly teams up to 20 join us in Jacmel. Multiple groups are sent to various locations daily.

MAF is a vital transportation link for our teams. We really appreciate all their efforts.Dave Bird

'Activities include: children’s programs in local schools and remote communities, orphanage and hospital visits, food and clothing distribution and construction projects. Night time activities include film outreach and local church visits.

'Construction work that can consist of, demolition, repair and new construction of interim schools and churches, orphanages and homes, and fabrication of school benches and church pews. For licensed medical and physical therapy team members there is usually an opportunity to serve at the local hospital and clinics.

'MAF is a vital transportation link for our teams. We really appreciate all their efforts.'
