MAF goes the extra mile to ensure that a small boy in a remote Tanzanian village receives vital medication and a doctor.
Pilot Andrew Parker and the team from Kilimatinde clinic were nearing the end of their monthly medical outreach into remote Tanzanian villages.
In the final stop – a village called Mahaka – a small boy there needed urgent attention. He was bitten by a dog, believed to be rabid.
Andrew carried the boy into the small plane and flew him to Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania.
Meanwhile, the MAF team phoned Dodoma Christian Medical Centre, who alerted a doctor to be on standby. However, the doctor had no transport to meet the boy at the airport, nor had any medication to treat rabies.
So MAF staff faithfully went searching around pharmacies in Dodoma to find the correct medicines, and in due course Andrew delivered the young patient and the medicine to the doctor.
The latest report is that he is making good progress on his recovery.
