MAF celebrates fifty years in Congo

2 June 2011

This year, Mission Aviation Fellowship celebrates 50 years of service in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The occasion was marked with a service at the International Protestant Church of Kinshasa last weekend.

At the beginning of the ceremony, a video message from MAF US President John Boyd brought greetings and congratulations to all those working for MAF in the DRC, thanking them for all that has been accomplished.

Serving congelese people in remote areas

A Church of Christ in Congo representative, who attended the event, shared 1 Corinthians 15: 58 with our team: ‘Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.’

Our western DRC Country Director Garth Pederson writes, ‘Despite many trials and challenges, MAF has persevered and continues to bless those in isolated areas.

'Over the years, the staff and equipment have changed, yet the ministry remains essentially the same - bringing hope to the hopeless, demonstrating God’s love in practical ways.

'It is truly a privilege to serve with talented colleagues, dedicated men standing shoulder to shoulder supported by godly wives and children.’

Today, MAF has 8 aircraft and 70 staff serving in DRC, regularly serving more than 100 organisations. With huge distances, inpenetratable rainforests and massive physical and spiritual needs, we anticipate there being a big demand for our services in the years to come.
