Karamoja in north-eastern Uganda has been the location of years of intra-tribal conflict.
Throughout the year, our aircraft fly teams to Moroto to work with Dr Val Shean, a missionary vet who has been instrumental in bringing peace. These include peace-building teams, construction workers, people working with orphans, vets and pastoral leaders.
MAF’s direct flights significantly reduce the travel time needed to reach this remote area, overcoming insecurity and ensuring that they make the most of their visits.
Arriving on an MAF flight, Dr Val welcomed pastors from the USA to Nabwal Valley, known as ‘the raiding corridor’. The team shares their experiences in the video below.
Often creating the very roads she drives on, Dr Val travels in her Land Rover to villages surrounding Moroto, conducting training in basic veterinary skills. She has been known to treat up to 500 cattle a day. Recently she has focused on performing operations to remove bullets from cattle raids.
Together, using Biblical principles, Dr Val and the pastors began peace talks with the Pian and Bokora. Both sides admitted their part in the conflicts (which have cost many lives), expressed willingness to forgive and committed to re-settle in the proposed ‘peace village’ in Nabwal Valley. There are now 11,000 people living in that village!
We can't do this without you
There are thousands of impoverished communities around the world isolated by poor infrastructure, conflict and natural barriers.
While these remain, our planes will continue to make a difference by enabling more than 1,000 organisations to reach remote places, bringing physical and spiritual care.
