Flying dentists in Chad

Unloading supplies from the MAF plane

MAF flew a dental team on a ten-day medical safari to remote villages of Chad. Also on board were church leaders from the USA to encourage missionaries. MAF pilot Kalvin Hildebrandt reports in what he considers 'the highlight of my flying in Chad':

I flew for Golden Hills Community Church from the USA. They have adopted several key people groups in eastern Chad and, for the past 10 years, have sent out a number of new missionary families as well as supported missionaries already established in the area.

Each year, the mission pastor comes at least once to encourage teams and bring in a short-term dental team to support the full-time missionaries.

While these visits bless the remotely-placed missionaries, the dental team seeks to provide ‘visible’ and personal care to the local communities and through that build trust for the missionaries.

I have done at least 7-8 of these trips over the years and they are always the highlight of my flying in Chad. On this trip we visited 4 communities spending 2-3 days in each location. The pastor visited with four mission units while hundreds of patients were seen.

It is during these trips that I see so clearly the blessing that MAF is to Chad! And we are privileged to be a part of it!
