Engineers

Engineers join MAF at different entry levels.

Minimum entry engineers must hold an ICAO based Aviation Maintenance Licence and also  ideally have 2 years minimum practical experience. They must also have varied experience in small aircraft. Piston and turbine experience on airframes and engines is preferred. Engineers work closely with the Chief Engineer as part of the maintenance team working on single piston and/or turbine engine aircraft.

Experienced entry engineers will need the requirements above and in addition 3 to 4 years of practical experience and evidence of completion of manufacturer’s courses. Responsibilities will include training and supervision of aviation staff and assisting the Chief Engineer in areas such as planning and scheduling of aircraft maintenance.

Chief Engineers will be responsible for the management the aviation maintenance team and the overall maintenance operation within a programme. Chief engineers need to have 5 years or more practical aviation maintenance experience plus management or supervisory experience. The role includes maintenance operation budgeting, hangar and stock control, supervision of other maintenance staff.

The working environment for engineers can be a basic or well equipped hangar. There will be a team of local staff to work with and also colleagues from other home countries. There is occasional work out of the hangar when an aircraft needs maintenance in the field so engineers sometimes travel to the countryside to work on the aircraft. There are a variety of aircraft to be worked on e.g. Cessna 206, 210, 208, PC-12. And there is a variety of engines to work on too e.g. TCM 10-520, 10-550, PT6A-114, 67.

Avionics Technicians will hold an ICAO based licence as a minimum recruitment standard. Responsibilities will include the installation and maintenance of aicraft avionics both in the avionics shop and on the aircraft. Avionics Manufacturer's courses may be required depending on the role. Responsibilities may also inclyde HF radio ground station maintenance.
