Empowering people in Arnhem Land

23 September 2011

MAF provides a professional aviation service for those people living and working in the remote Aboriginal communities throughout east Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia.

We fly education, medical help and government, as well as pastors and essential supplies to and from the isolated communities.

Below are two fresh updates from our operation there.

Yolŋu for Jesus is an aboriginal-led ministry whose vision is to see people "evangelised, equipped, encouraged and empowered" throughout north-eastern Arnhem Land. Local MAF staff recently worked alongside the ministry’s founders Gerard Marika and Kevin Sigai during a three-day outreach to Milingimbi.

Many were challenged and touched by God’s Spirit, with 150 people (over 10% of the island’s population) attending the final rally. It is our prayer that disciples will be raised and trained, and that Gerard and Kevin will fulfil the vision God has given them.

Keep on dancing

Northern Territory Christian Schools Association (NTCSA) recently thanked us for flying 12 children and 5 parents from the Gäwa Christian School on Elcho Island, Arnhem Land, to Darwin, where the Gäwa dance team performed at the opening ceremony of the NTCSA’s International Conference.

The children’s impact was apparently enormous, and was even featured on the ABC News.
