There are more than 10 million people at great risk from the famine and food insecurity in East Africa. Many more are affected by insecurity, isolation and lack of healthcare.
MAF has been operating in the area for decades and know that those most vulnerable need the united prayers of as many people as possible. The global media coverage and needs assessments carried out by aid agencies confirm this further.
Rising demand for MAF's services
While our primary appeal is for as many as possible to join the East Africa Prayer Movement, MAF gratefully accepts financial gifts, which will go towards our work across East Africa.
Some MAF supporters might be wondering why a financial appeal has only just been launched.
As the growing crisis made the headlines, the famine response was still in its early days. There was still a lack of information about where the greatest needs were and it was unclear how aid agencies would plan their response.
MAF’s aircraft became increasingly called upon to fly leaders of aid agencies and international ambassadors to the scene to carry out needs-assessments. Coupled with growing requests for relief and development flights into newly independent South Sudan has also grown, MAF’s operation in Kenya is being pushed to the limit.
Now, additional engineers, pilots and an aircraft are being transferred to Kenya to join the existing operation. This increases our capacity to speed more help and hope to those most affected, particularly in remote places.
People's support to MAF will help to accommodate the growing present demands in this crisis and help us meet the long-term needs there.
